We offer the best instruction on Long Island with our ACA Open Water coastal certified instructor Elizabeth O'Conner. We offer classes for all levels. Find a clinic that addresses your needs and call to register. ACAQuick Start Clinic is an introduction to paddling a kayak. Students are presented with basic information on equipment, carrying, launching, landing, dressing to paddle safely, potential hazards and simple rescues. Basic strokes covered; forward, reverse, stopping, turning and wet exit. A perfect course to enhance the enjoyment and safety of the entry level paddler. An ACA participation card is given to students. Rescue Clinics could also be called recovery clinics. In this class students learn what to do in the event of a capsize. Different assisted and unassisted techniques along with a simple contact tow are taught so you can help yourself or someone else back into the kayak. This is a fun, wet class. Advanced Rescue & Towing Clinic. Rescue skills are only as good as the conditions you practice them under. This class is as real as it gets. Here is your chance to practice your rescues under real-life conditions, in simulated scenarios, under the supervision of certified instructors. Topics covered: assisted and unassisted (self rescue), tandem rescue, towing, multiple rescues and more. This is a great course for intermediate and advanced paddlers who want to improve their skills. Bracing & Rolling. To roll you need a good brace. We will fine tune your braces and then work on developing a bombproof roll! Being able to roll builds on fundamental support skills that often make rolling non-essential, giving us great confidence. Topicscovered: draw strokes, low-brace, high-brace, development of hip-snap, rolling the kayak. These are skills every kayaker wants.
